Greensboro, NC-- There is a whole lot of knitting going and it's not a competition. It's help and hope from Greensboro to New York City.

Several churches in Greensboro are holding a knit-a-thon to make prayer shawls for adults and children in areas around New York City still recovering from superstorm Sandy.

Carol Long, said the joint project started Monday and they've completed 25 shawls. Long said some members are also working at home.

The group knits from 10am-3pm each day and plan to do this until Thursday, November 15.

Churches involved include:

  • Praying Hands Shawl Ministry of Irving Park United Methodist Church
  • W. Market Street UMC
  • St. Francis Episcopal Church
  • Westminster Presbyterian Church

Arrangements have been made to have the shawls shipped to Freeport United Methodist Church in New York, when all the shawls are completed.

Anyone interested in helping can call Irving Park United Methodist Church at: 288-2323
