Greensboro, NC -- Jen Pack and her daughter Bella can't stand to see children go hungry so they decided to do something about it.

Bella came up with the bright idea to prepare food backpacks to send home with children. Especially since school lunch may be the only hot meal a lot of students get.

"We try to get enough food in each backpack to provide two meals for a family of four," says Jen.

Each week Jen and her children go grocery shopping to buy items like fresh fruits, canned vegetables and rice.

Jen says it's not just their hungry tummies that get the advantage of nutrition, "It takes students who don't recieve adequate nutrition over the weekend about two and a half days before their brains finally start learning again."

All five of Jen's daughters pitch in to help stop little growling stomachs. They form an assembly line to make the bags of food that will be sent him... making sure they aren't to heavy for a child to carry in their backpack.

"It's been wonderful, its been such a great experience for the girls to be a part of this to realize not everyone is as blessed as we are."

Twelve children get a 'packed' backpack each week and Jen is getting more and more offers from organizations to make that number grow.

"When I think about families that don't have enough to eat it just breaks my heart... and I can't imagine what those mothers feel like".
