Triad -- Seed tape can be very handy. You can buy it at the store to keep your garden rows straight and keep your seeds evenly spaced. It means you shouldn't have to thin out later.

You can also make your own. This is especially a good project for kids. They can learn about gardening and about measuring.

Just use toilet paper, newspaper or a brown paper bag. All will decompose when you put them in the ground. Check the back of the seed packet to see how far apart the seeds should be spaced. Then, using a marker and ruler, mark off that distance on your toilet paper.

Next, put a drop of glue on each mark and with tweezers, place your seeds on the glue. You can also make your own. Just mix 1/4 cup of flour with just enough water to make a paste. Then add your seeds.

You can store that back on the toilet paper roll in a cool dry place until you're ready to plant.

When it's time, just put your seed tape down and cover it to the depth the packet recommends. Then water well.
