Triad --  Every year, you have the July 4th cook-out at your house.  Your potato salad and old fashioned chocolate cake are always a hit but you would like to take it up a notch.  The taste has been perfected so why not change the look?

There are many edible flowers you can try.  Before you try them, read this article from the NC State Extension Service.  Remember to use only edible plants which have been grown organically.  You don't want to eat, or serve, pesticides or fertilizers.  There's no better way to ruin a good celebration than with a trip to the emergency room!  Here's a list of plants you should never eat.  Also be sensitive to guests who may have allergies.

Add a Hibiscus flower or a Daylily to the top of your potato salad for a nice little pop of color.

Adding flowers to the top of your famous cake will put it over the top.  Here is a list of some to try.  Some can even be candied for an extra special treat.

If you've asked your friends to bring 2 liter drinks to the party, you can even add your own touch and make those special.  Freeze edible flowers inside ice cubes.  Even if someone opts for plain water, the flower cubes will make them feel like they have something special.
