Greensboro, NC  - 96% of homes in the US now have at lease one smoke detector. Unfortunately only 75% have a working smoke detector.

2/3 of all the fire deaths occur in homes that have a smoke detector that is not working or no smoke detector at all.

You can buy a battery operated  smoke detector for less than $10 at your local hardware store. In many cities the fire department will installed one free of charge if you can not afford one.

Mr. Fix It Tom Garcia says a smoke detector could really be one of the most important safety devices you have in your home.  You can find Garcia most days at Southern Evergreen in Greensboro, building houses and helping homeowners make improvements.
