Winston-Salem, NC -- Police are warning residents about a man and a woman impersonating sheriff's deputies in order to steal money.

Officers say they are investigating several reports of residents receiving phone calls from the man, who claims to be a deputy with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. The caller tells the person they've failed to appear for jury duty and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. And, he says, the only way to avoid being a arrested, is to pay a fine.

Police say a female is also pretending to be an officer with the sheriff's officer. She's made calls to residents saying a member of that person's family had failed to appear for jury duty and that the resident could pay the fine on their behalf.

Detectives say the pair has not received any money from the potential victims who have reported the crimes.

And, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office confirmed to police that this is not a practice of their agency.

If you have any information about these incidents, call Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.
