Police Arrest Robbery Suspects After Foot Chase

Winston-Salem, NC -- Two Winston-Salem men are in custody after robbing a local market and assaulting two men, police say.

Officers responded to a robbery-in-progress call at the Alpha Market on Broad Street around 9:30 p.m. An officer saw the two suspects run from the store and tried to stop them.

After a short foot chase, the officer arrested Byron Clay Scott, 22, and Rakie Lamont Badger, 20, near the corner of Main and Waughtown Streets.

Police say the suspects were carrying money from the store.

Detectives say the suspects also hit a 62-year-old man with a metal pipe during the robbery. Paramedics took the victim to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Paramedics also treated a 24-year-old man at the scene of the crime.
