Police Nab Winston-Salem Robbery, Assault Suspect

Winston-Salem, NC -- Court magistrates denied bail to a man police say assaulted a female employee and robbed a beauty supply store more than a week ago.

Officers arrested Kwame Audley Johnson, of Winston-Salem, after a short foot chase Wednesday.

Detectives say he broke into the Downtown Beauty Town on N. Trade St. and attacked a female employee with a knife May 13. The employee did need medical attention following the assault, but doctors have since released her from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Surveillance photos from the downtown Transit Center showed the 23-year-old running from the scene the evening of the robbery.

Police interviewed Johnson Wednesday and charged him with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and first-degree kidnapping.

He's being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond.

Johnson's court date is set for June 13.
