Greensboro, NC -- There are so many things that people fear and are concerned about when looking for a job. Many believe they are overweight, and are worried an employer is going to immediately discriminate against them.

Career Consultant Joyce Richman suggests first to get under a doctor's care. See a nutritionist with doctor's guidance. Begin an exercise regiment that would make sense for you.  She says, "By doing these kinds of things when you interview, you can right off the bat, say to an employer, 'Let me tell you about some of the things I'm doing relative to my own weight management: that I'm exercising, I've got energy and great energy for this job. And that's why I'm so excited to be here to speak to you about it."

Richman says by saying something like that you get the preverbal elephant out of the room and you can focus on the job itself.

You can read more advice from Richman every Sunday in the Triad Career section of the News and Record.
