Asheboro, NC -- The upcoming session of the General Assembly could answer questions about the size and scope of the North Carolina Zoo's planned expansion.
The Triad Business Journal reports Zoo officials say lawmakers are crafting a bill that would partially privatize the state-owned zoo. It would add more land for a "third continent" and recruit a partner to develop hotel convention and entertainment facilities.
The director of the zoo said approval by lawmakers is critical before they can enter into any detailed discussions about partnerships and what they can and can't do in the future.
WFMY News 2 talked with Zoo officials in October of last year about moving towards privatizing the Zoo.
