Wells Fargo Carriage Rolled Into Winston Thursday

Winston-Salem, NC -- Wells Fargo's horse-drawn carriage rolled into Winston-Salem Thursday as the bank completed its takeover of Wachovia.  The former Wachovia building on Main Street is now the Wells Fargo building. Wachovia started in Winston-Salem in the late 1800's. The name change took effect in North Carolina on Monday.  Mayor Allen Joines called the change: a day of mixed emotions.

Raleigh, NC -- Tax collections in North Carolina rose in the fiscal first quarter of 2012. The North Carolina controller's office reports show it jumped by 135 million dollars through the first three months compared to the same period a year ago. Two out of three of the state's so-called economy-based taxes showed positive gains from July through September. Individual income taxes were up over the same period in 2010, but sales tax collections slumped. Total state tax collections for fiscal 2012 through September were $4.48 billion.

Raleigh, NC -- Our state's small business administration say they were able to help keep a number of businesses going. The US S Small Business Administrations says loans jumped nearly 54 percent for the 12 months ending September 30th. The SBA says it issued guarantees for more than 1200 loans in the state during that period.
