Greensboro, NC - The Women's Only 5k Walk and Run is more than a race to the finish line. For breast cancer survivors and those who are fighting it, the three mile trek is empowering.
You can share in that wonderful moment at the Women's Only 5K Walk & Run in Greensboro on Saturday, October 6th.
Addy Jeffrey is just one survivor who will be at the walk with a team of supporters she affectionately calls "Addy's Army."
Jeffrey's best friend started the group and participated in the Women's Only 5K Walk & Run for the first time last October. Addy wasn't able to finish the race in 2011, but she is determined to cross the finish line this Saturday.
"I discovered a lump during a breast self-exam, I underwent five months of chemotherapy, four surgeries and six weeks of radiation. I was weak last year, but I'm going to do it this year," said Jeffrey.
The event not only brings together women impacted by this awful disease, it is also a fundraiser for the Mammography Scholarship Fund at Women's Hospital. The fund provides screenings to women who are under-insured or cannot afford to get the preventative help they need.
It's not too late for you to take part. You can register on Friday, October 5th at the Women's Hospital Education Building from 4-7pm. Or register the morning of the race on October 6th starting at 7:30am.
