Asheboro, NC -- For the third year in a row, bikers from all across the Piedmont... and even several states away, gathered at Cox's Harley Davidson in Asheboro to raise money for mammography scholarships in Randolph County. One fellow and his dog left Pittsburgh, PA at 1:00 AM Saturday morning to make it in time for the ride to begin.
The ride began when two breast cancer survivors met in Cox's Harley Davidson. They struck up a conversation and a friendship. Each year since then, Fay Morgan and Joy Hicks have planned a ride which has brought out hundreds of riders... despite the weather the past two years. Last year, a torrential downpour kept numbers down but still more than a hundred showed up to lend their support. This year, the weather was a little more bearable but still not great. Yet many of the same faithful bikers showed up again.
Because of the ride, women in Randolph County who are uninsured or underinsured can have mammograms. Thankfully most of the tests have come back negative. However at least one has been positive. That means she can get treatments for a disease she wouldn't have known she had without support from Bikers 4 Boobs.
