Kernersville, NC -- Today's Kids Want To Know comes from the Kernersville Little League team,The Dodgers.

"We want to know what was the first baseball team in Greensboro?"

We know the Greensboro team now as the Grasshoppers. Before that they were the Bats, the Hornets.

But for the first 40 years they were known as ???

Linda Evans with the Greensboro Historical Museum has the answer. "Greensboro has a long baseball history. But the first professional team that lasted more than one season was the Greensboro Patriots. The name, they were named after the Patriots who fought for the Guilford courthouse. They played their first season in 1908."

Their very first 3 seasons, they were champions and in one of their series. The famous Shoeless Joe Jackson played in Greensboro at a field near Summit Avenue near what is now WFMY News 2.

The same uniform worn by the pitcher who faced Shoeless Joe is right there for you to see at the Greensboro Historical Museum. They are open everyday except Monday.
