GREENSBORO, NC -- When your kid is sick, they can at least point to the place that doesn't feel good. But when your pet is sick, the humans are somewhat at a disadvantage.

Now there's an app for that. The American Red Cross has a Pet First Aid App. The cost is $.99. 2WTK invited Dr. Claudia Sims from North Elm Animal Hospital to review it for us.

Overall, she thought the app was easy to use and addressed many of the situations she sees in her office. One of the highlights was the "Know What's Normal" section. This is especially good for new pet owners.

The app is geared towards dogs and cats. On the bottom of the app are several categories from Learn, Prepare, Emergency, Quizzes and Pets where you can add your pet's records and always have their medical information with you.

In the Prepare section, there is a way for you to locate the pet friendly hotels wherever you are.

Dr. Sims noted that with each Learn section, there are clear do's and don'ts. Too often, Sims says pet owners try to overcompensate to make their pet feel better and end up doing something that makes the pet sicker.

She says the app is a great starting point to help owners decide when they should go to the vet and when they can handle the situation at home.
