DARE COUNTY, NC -- What do you do when the sand that supports a bridge is eroding? You bring sand in to replace it.

Crews from the Dredge Alaska will work to stabilize the Bonner Bridge on NC 12 in Dare County. The work is expected to take two days and cost about $1.6 million. That's a chunk of change for an emergency repair.

So 2WTK look at the NC DOT bridge budget. Maintenance is $65 million a year.
They allocate another $12 million for bridge inspections.
The state inspects all of the 13,500 state maintained bridges at least every two years.
Do you want to see the inspection schedule or how to report bridges in your area? Check out the NC DOT site.
