GREENSBORO, NC -- This week 2 Wants To Know has been talking recycling and e-cycling. Green lifestyle habits are caught and taught.
Shannon Koontz with Piedmont Parent Magazine is "greening us up".
"One way is to teach them how to appreciate the world around them by exploring local parks so they can see you love the earth too. Lead by example by picking up litter as you go. Participate in local clean up initiatives like the "Keep WS Beautiful" annual big sweep or the "Greensboro Beautiful" community clean ups. Also, take older kids for a tour of the local recycling plants so they can see how it all works."
This next idea, isn't as fun, but works!
Reinforce conservation efforts at home that are simple for any age can handle like turning out the light when you leave a room, and conserving water when you brush your teeth.
And when it comes to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
"Holidays are a great time to teach the kids the three R's!"
Reduce - instead of throwing a bunch of tchoksky's they'll only play with once into their stocking, load it up with fruit and nuts.
Reuse - instead of buying gift wrap, wrap gifts for friends and other family members in the kids artwork.
Recycle - when new toys come in... teach them to trade out their old ones that they no longer play with.
Piedmont Parent's current issue has a Holiday Gift Guide for kids of each stage.
