Greensboro, NC -- When you go to them, there's a message they can't operate  during the shutdown.  You think it's all automated, and takes little maintenance - so what gives?

Government agency leaders tell the website Politico, it all has to do with the servers. People actually keep those machines running, and they've been furloughed too. So if the website doesn't provide an essential service like protecting life or property, it's closed.

But there is a way to find information on those closed sites. The web site web.archive.org still has versions of those government pages - archived from just hours before the shutdown started.
