Greensboro, NC-- Normally when you think of serving you think soup kitchen, Habitat for Humanity, maybe donating food.

They are all great ways to serve, but it's just the beginning!

Andy Cook, director of The Big Serve, joined us on 2WTK to talk about The Big Serve event and how it can be more than just one event!

"The Big Serve was 3 states, 24 churches, hundreds of serving opportunities all in one week of October." (Oct 3-12)

The misconception about serving is that: it will take too much time, you can't do it because you have kids,  or because you're not  physically able to do a lot."

The Big Serve breaks down all of that. There were service  opportunities that fit every timeframe and every life stage. From data entry at Second Harvest Food Bank, to helping folks fill out forms for the Salvation Army Christmas Program, to making meals for firefighters and organizing items at area Pregnancy centers.

"The key is The Big Serve is one week, but it's a springboard for the rest of the year."

There are service opportunities all throughout the year. it becomes a way of life. Maybe it's not every week for you. but it's once a month for just 2 hours. But it is serving and serving isn't just for holidays and special events.

If you have a school, organization, retirement community, fire station, etc. nearby, call and ask them what their needs are and how you can serve them.

If you're interested in The Big Serve, you can email organizers and sign up your church to serve next year or sign up your organization to be served.
