Greensboro, NC -- You can now enroll in one of the government's Affordable Care Act health insurance plans. No matter what plan you pick, you need to know key dates.

You have until March 31, 2014 to have health coverage or you will be fined on next year's taxes. And health coverage can start on January 1, 2014. That is key, the word, "can".

Which brings us to the second set of dates.
Know this,  your health coverage is not instant.
If you sign up and *pay your premium* anytime before December 15th, 2013 your health coverage will start January 1, 2014.

But look at this.
If you sign up and pay your first premium after December 15th, your health coverage won't begin until February 1st.

The cycle is if you pay any month from the first to the 15th your insurance kicks in at the beginning of the next month.
But if you pay after the 15th, your insurance doesn't kick in until the first of, not the next month, but the following month.
