Greensboro, NC -- Weather-wise the summer of 2013 will be remembered as abnormally cool and rainy. In fact, most of 2013 has had a precipitation surplus that was made more pronounced during the summer months.

As we enter fall and the rainy pattern seems to have ended the this question was posed to WFMY News 2's Meteorologists, "How long can the Triad go with no rain and remain in a surplus?"

As of September 19th, the Piedmont Triad International Airport had received 39.81" of precipitation since January 1st. This number was 8.18" in the surplus. Totaling the 'normal' rainfall that each day has from this day forward the WFMY News 2 meteorologists determined that the Triad could last until at least December 7th and remain in a surplus. If the Triad did not receive any rain through December 8th (highly unlikely) then the cumulative annual rainfall would drop below normal.

WFMY News 2 Meteorologist Grant Gilmore explained further in the attached video.
