Greensboro, NC -- All this week 2WTK is testing your knowledge of energy savings.

Myth #1: Closing A/C vents in unused rooms can save you money.

FICTION! Most heating or cooling systems work just as hard whether 10 vents or 12 are open.  In fact, according to the Conservation Services Group, closing a vent can even throw off the system's balance and allow pressure to build in the duct work. That could mean leaks, decreased efficiency and higher utility bills!

Myth #2: Driving with a pickup truck's tailgate down helps save fuel economy.

FICTION: Consumer Reports actually put the theory to the test. They did their normal fuel economy tests on a pickup with the tailgate up, tailgate down, and with a factory cover. With the tailgate up, the truck got 22.3 miles per gallon. Lowering the tailgate lowered fuel efficiency to 21.5 miles per gallon, and adding the cover also hurt the efficiency -- lowering it to 21.4 miles per gallon.
