Piedmont Triad, NC -- This time of year, pop-up storms are fairly common in the Triad.

And, if you have to drive in rainy conditions, you want to make sure you can see.

How often should you change your windshield wipers?

If you still have your owner's manual available, it's best to check it for what the manufacturer recommends.

"However, your wiper manufacturers, they're going to tell you six months because one of the things that really kills wipers is extreme heat, the sun, or extreme cold, ice and snow," said Bob Pulverenti, the executive director of Independent Garage Owners of North Carolina.

"You may pay as  little as $5 or $6 for a wiper blade, but you might pay as much as $35 or $40. It depends on the make and model."

Pulverenti explained most of the makes and models are simple to clip on and don't take much time to install.

"The new set of rubber is going to make all the difference in the world,' he added.
