Greensboro, NC -- Once you hand over your bag, you don't see it again until it's at baggage claim.
So, what happens to it? At PTI 490,000 bags go through the baggage carousel process. 2 Wants To Know shows you where it goes and gives you a behind the scenes look.
First, you drop it off on the 2nd floor of the airport. All the bags travel on a covered conveyer belt.
Your bag travels at least a quarter of a mile from the time you drop it to when it gets loaded in the plane. Your bag only sees the light of day when the TSA checks it and when it gets loaded on the plane.
PTI also gave us a moving schem-a-tic to show you how your bag travels. A bag can travel the whole way beltway, which is a about a mile, in less than four minutes. That means your bag is moving at about 15 miles an hour!
Just for reference, RDU screens about 1.4 million bags a year.
