Greensboro, NC -- There's something you probably don't think twice about: newspaper ads. But a full page one from the News and Record caught the eye of a 2 Wants to Know viewer. It says you get a free silver coin if you buy a vault bag. And the bag is supposed to include "scarce" and "highly collectible" coins so it could be worth a "small fortune."
The company making the claims is World Reserve Monetary Exchange whose parent company is Universal Syndications. And the Better Business Bureau has a red alert on Universal Syndications. The site says the company has an F rating and 269 complaints in the last three years.
David Dalrymple from the Winston-Salem BBB has three tips when evaluating this and really any company:
- Know the company - research the company history to find the good or bad.
- Know the product - understand what you are buying including current market value, actual scarcity versus company inventory "scarcity." Comparison shopping is your friend. And make sure we read the fine print.
- Know the terms - understand all costs and look for any hidden charges. And make sure free means free.
We have reached out to the News and Record for comment-- the ad was in their paper. Any official comment has to come from the paper's publisher, Robin Saul. We have not heard back from him as of yet.
