Greensboro, NC --  A yard sale seems so harmless. But a yard sale isn't just a good deal, it's an easy place to make a steal.

So police say one thing you should do is make eye contact with everyone at your sale.  The mind game is this: people are less willing to steal from you if they know you are watching them and can describe them.

It's as easy as saying, "Hey.how's it going today?" to making a trip around the tables and straightening up.

You want people to buy things, but you should never let anyone in your house to try something on.

Greensboro Police Officer Doug Campbell says make sure you lock all the doors to your house. Don't think someone won't try and go in the back door wihtout you knowing!

Make sure the cash you're getting is real. Don't be surprised if people show up with $20's and $100 bills. You should test bills for authenticity with a counterfeit pen. You can get a 3 pack for $10.

Officer Campbell says the best place to keep the money is on you!
