Greensboro, NC -- Each week on WFMY News 2 at 5:30 during the 2 Wants To Know newscast Meteorologist Grant Gilmore answers your weather questions.

On Monday Grant answered a question off of facebook from 'Severe Weather Eastern NC' where they asked, "How do tornadoes get their color?"

The Answer:  The color of tornadoes depends on numerous elements all of which play a varying importance depending on the situation.

These factors include:

     - Direction/Elevation of the sun

     - Surface the tornado is over (dirt, clay, etc...)

     - Sky conditions

     - Moisture content in the atmosphere

Each tornado develops in a unique environment and it's characteristics and behavior will be greatly dependent on the surrounding atmospheric and surface conditions.
