San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - After spending the past 11 months away from the national team, Landon Donovan returned in style on Friday as he scored twice to lead the United States to a 6-0 friendly win over Guatemala.

Donovan scored from the penalty spot in the 55th minute to give him 50 goals in his national team career, and he added another for good measure in the 72nd just before being substituted.

Herculez Gomez opened the scoring in the 42nd after a sluggish first 40 minutes for the U.S., while Chris Wondolowski netted his first international goal in his 12th appearance in the 71st minute before Clarence Goodson and Alejandro Bedoya scored late.

Jose Torres set up the opening tally with a clever chip into the area that Gomez finished off at the back post from inside the six-yard box.

Donovan then drew a foul inside the penalty area, and there was no question as to the man who would take the kick as Donovan sent a slow shot down the middle of the net past a diving goalkeeper.

Wondolowski's goal was set up in large part by Donovan as his deflected pass fell to the San Jose striker, who easily dispatched the ball inside the right post.

Donovan volleyed home Stuart Holden's chipped ball one minute later, while Goodson and Bedoya each scored in the final 10 minutes.

The Americans will open their Gold Cup campaign against Belize on Tuesday.
