The Carolina Panthers have signed free agent safety Quintin Mikell, the team announced Monday.
The team also placed safety Haruki Nakamura on injured reserve with a concussion.
Mikell, 5-10 and 205 pounds, joins the Panthers after spending the previous two seasons (2011-12) with the St. Louis Rams. Mikell started all 32 games played for the Rams, totaling 214 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, seven passes defensed and nine forced fumbles.
A veteran of 10 NFL seasons, Mikell entered the NFL in 2003 out of Boise State as an undrafted rookie free agent with Philadelphia. Mikell earn a Pro Bowl selection in 2009 and second-team NFL All-Pro honors in 2008 and 2010. Panthers head coach Ron Rivera (2003 - linebackers) and defensive coordinator Sean McDermott (2003 - assistant defensive backs; 2004-06 - secondary/safeties; 2007 - linebackers; 2008 - defensive backs; 2009-10 - defensive coordinator) were members of the Eagles coaching staff during Mikell's time in Philadelphia.
For his career, Mikell has played in 155 regular season games with 91 starts and has totaled 742 tackles, eight sacks, 12 interceptions, 52 passes defensed, 16 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. Mikell has also seen action in 12 postseason games, including five starts in the postseason and was a member of the 2004 Eagles team that won the NFC Championship.
