Morse powers Mariners past Angels

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Michael Morse crushed a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie and lifting the Seattle Mariners to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Safeco Field.

Jason Bay also homered for Seattle, which took three of four from the Angels to win its first series of the season.

Hisashi Iwakuma tossed another gem but earned a no-decision after allowing just one unearned run in six innings while fanning eight. Carter Capps (2-1) threw two scoreless innings in relief and Tom Wilhelmsen pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save in as many tries.

Angels starter Jason Vargas (0-3) went the distance but remained winless on the season. Vargas struck out seven and yielded just two runs and six hits in eight innings of work.

The Angels hit 0-for-17 with runners in scoring position for the series.
