GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNCG men's soccer team has started to receive some national attention after its 3-0-0 start to the season as the Spartans were ranked No. 18 in the nation by College Soccer News Monday.

UNCG is the lone Southern Conference school ranked in the top 30 and the second highest ranked team from the state of North Carolina.

The Spartans have opened the 2013 season with three straight wins, all coming by shutout, as they have defeated UNC Asheville at home before picking up road wins over nationally ranked Charlotte and James Madison. UNCG has opened the season with three straight shutouts for the first time since 1983 when it posted a 23-1-1 record on its way to a National Championship.

The Spartans picked up their biggest win of the season to date last week with a 1-0 victory at then No. 15 Charlotte, becoming the first road team to spoil the 49ers home opener since 1999. Additionally, the Spartans' win at James Madison knocked the Dukes from the undefeated ranks and marks UNCG's first victory at JMU in program history.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Stephen Moffitt (Burlington, N.C./Williams) has started all three games this season and has posted three straight shutouts. Moffitt, who entered the year with just 53:04 minutes played in his career, has not allowed a goal in 270 minutes this season and has made eight saves.

Junior midfielder David Reittinger (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest) leads the team and the SoCon in scoring with three goals in the firs three games. Reittinger, who only had to career goals in his first two seasons, posting two against UNCA before scoring the game's lone goal against No. 15 Charlotte. Senior defender Mahdi Ali (Helsinki, Finland/Vuosaaren Lukio) has scored his first two career goals this season with both coming as game-winning tallies against the Bulldogs and Dukes.

The Spartans will continue their strong non-conference schedule this week as they begin a stretch where five of their next six games are at home beginning Wednesday night as Triad rival High Point comes to the UNCG Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
