CHARLOTTE, N.C.  - Panthers coach Ron Rivera says veteran strong safety Quintin Mikell could be forced into the starting lineup Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Rookie Robert Lester, who has started the last two games at strong safety, is doubtful on the injury report with a hamstring injury. Lester did not practice Friday.

Rivera says he'll wait until Sunday to make a decision on Lester's status.

Carolina has struggled to find consistency at the safety position this season. They lost veteran free safety Charles Godfrey to a torn Achilles in week two and Mike Mitchell missed the season opener with a foot injury.

Rivera ruled out cornerback DJ Moore (knee) for Sunday's game and says defensive tackle Dwan Edwards (hamstring) and running back Kenjon Barner (foot) are doubtful.
