CONOVER, N.C. - 1992 U.S. Open Championship winner Tom Kite has joined the field for the 11th annual Greater Hickory Kia Classic at Rock Barn, the tournament announced today.
The Champions Tour event is set for Oct. 14-20, 2013 at Rock Barn Golf & Spa.
Kite joins a field that already includes Charles Schwab Cup points leader Kenny Perry, defending champion Fred Funk, former Hickory winners Jay Haas, Mark Wiebe, Craig Stadler, Andy Bean and Gary Hallberg as well as Rocco Mediate, Duffy Waldorf, David Frost, Russ Cochran and Jeff Sluman.
In addition, World Golf Hall of Fame members Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie, Larry Nelson, Nick Price and Curtis Strange will also play.
The field includes three of the top four and 23 of the top-30 players in the Charles Schwab Cup point standings.
Kite was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002 and is the sixth World Golf Hall of Famer set to play the Greater Hickory Kia Classic later this month - the most in tournament history.
In addition to his 1992 U.S. Open title, Kite also won the 2000 U.S. Senior Open. He is a 19-time PGA TOUR winner and a 10-time Champions Tour winner, but his biggest thrill in golf was being selected as the 1997 Ryder Cup captain.
Kite has played in eight of the 10 previous editions of the Greater Hickory Kia Classic including each of the last seven. He finished tied for second in 2008 for his best finish here.
