Hanover, NY -- Golf is a sport embedded in numbers. From the number of holes you play, the number of swings you took, to the number of times you mark a dreaded three-putt on your scorecard.

All those numbers matter to Angola native Dominic DeMariano, but there's one that doesn't.

Dominic, who turns 100 next month, is better known in the South Towns as "Mickey D" or "Mick the Stick". He's also the unofficial mayor of these parts. But besides that, Mickey is one heck of a golfer for any age. He still posts scores in the low 70s.

This nearly 100-year-old man can still hit a 200 yard drive right down the middle of the fairway. And that's no fluke, he can hit perfect shots again and again.

Don't let his smile and laugh fool you. This near centenarian has the reputation to hustle the pocket change out of golfers more than 70 years younger. He also hasn't paid to play here at Rosebrook for nearly a decade.

Mickey started playing golf in 1956 at the age of 43. The tireless work ethic that made him a master plumber at Meyer Memorial Hospital, now ECMC, also translated to success on the golf course. Back at his Angola home, Mick has several trophies, and even more he says in Florida, where he spends his winters, from all of his golf championships over the years.

His most recent tournament win? Last year in Florida. He played the same tournament this year but missed a day after he got sick, but still managed to take 2nd. He plans to bring home another trophy next time.

You may be asking, what's his secret?

It's been said that golf is the game that can never be won, only played. If that's the case, Mickey plans to keep playing for quite awhile longer.
