CALIFORNIA-- At Berkeley, it's almost easier to find Stanford Cardinal red on the cal campus than it is to find a smoker. It's about to get tougher. The University of California  system including Cal is already smoke-free.

Now the school systme wants to snuffed out all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes. The goal  is to get students and especially staffers off tobacco. But, banning smoke-less e-cigarettes has some questioning the board of regents.

Tamara Dissi "I understand why they're banning cigarettes for the smoke and they don't want second hand smoke, it's safety reasons. I don't know what I feel about e-cigarettes since they don't produce the smoke, it's just vapor"

It's a cloudy war Andrew Ong of 3 kings vapor in Walnut Creek says he fights on a daily basis.  He says the e-cigarettes are a way to kick the cancer sticks and second-hand smoke to the curb, while slowly stepping off nicotine.

Andrew Ong  "I came from a pack and a half a day, started vaping, did 24 milligrams of nicotine and now, I'm in between 0 milligrams and 6 milligrams of nicotine"  Ong says he understands science has yet to prove what he believes,  but still considers the  decision shortsighted especially for folks trying to kick the habit.

"I know my son smokes cigarettes, he's at a pack a day. He's tried the gum, he's got addicted to the gum, he tried the patch it didn't work and now he's back to smoking cigarettes and for me and the owners, it's been a great alternative."

"On a campus like cal, where *something* is always getting lit up maybe they're trying to produce a better image on campus."
