SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Protesters enraged by the police's killing of a teenager in Sao Paulo turned destructive Monday.
Protesters looted and ransacked local stores and blocked traffic for hours when they torched two trucks and at least five buses on a major road. At one point, a group of protesters highjacked one of the trucks and drove it on the highway at high speeds, local media said.
The demonstrators were reportedly protesting against the death of Douglas Rodrigues, 17, who police said was accidentally shot in the chest Sunday.
Police said they were responding to a disturbance and said the shooting was unintentional.
Rodrigues' death also sparked rioting and looting late Sunday night.
