MORGANTON, N.C. -- The U.S. Forest Service says a wildfire in the mountains of western North Carolina has been contained.
The forest service said Wednesday the Table Rock fire in the Linville Gorge has been contained. Officials say recent rainfall helped suppress the fire.
The fire started Nov. 12 and burned nearly 2,600 acres.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The forest service will soon start on any rehabilitation needed in the area. The gorge and its trails are open to the public. But the forest service warns visitors to use caution because there may be hazardous trees or other conditions that could be dangerous.
