GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wendover Avenue is again open to traffic after a water main break forced its closure Friday morning.

Greensboro police closed east and westbound lanes between Meadowood Drive and Norwalk Street.

Crews said the pipe split so they inserted a metal block to fix it. Police also said the eastbound lanes of Wendover Avenue were closed from Battleground Avenue to Hill Street Friday morning due to downed power lines. They have now opened one lane.

WFMY News 2 spoke with the general manager of Crown Automotives, which operates several car dealerships along the shut-down stretch of Wendover Ave. He said the water main break hurt business on what otherwise would have been a busy shopping day.  Because of the road closure, potential customers were unable to access the main entrance of the dealerships. However, he said he cannot afford to close the store Friday.
