RALEIGH, N.C. -- N.C. Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin says a Winston-Salem couple is facing embezzlement charges and insurance fraud of employee benefits.
Goodwin said officers arrested Christopher Ingalls, 39, and Samantha Ingalls, 34, on Monday.
Their charges include: Embezzlement, Insurance Fraud, Obtaining Property by False Pretense and Conspiracy to Obtain Property by False Pretense.
Investigators with the N.C. Department of Insurance (NCDOI) say the couple conspired to defraud the Hartford Insurance Company of more than $14,000 worth of workers' compensation benefits.
According to NCDOI, the couple submitted inflated salary reports for Christopher Ingalls and collected workers' compensation benefits for him while he continued drawing a regular salary. Investigators said this happened between March 10, 2012, and Aug. 10, 2012.
Investigators also accuse the Ingalls of embezzling nearly $33,000 from their employer by falsifying billable hour reports, making personal purchases on company credit cards and writing themselves fraudulent reimbursement checks.
The couple was placed in the Wake County Jail under a $150,000 unsecured bond each.
