ASHEBORO, NC - The North Carolina Zoo is holding its annual celebration of bats less than two weeks before Halloween.

The zoo will hold "Batology" on Saturday and Sunday at the Sonora Desert exhibit in the North America region. The event will feature zoo educator and keeper talks, educational displays, information about native bats and a children's activity station with games and prizes.

The event will end each day with a vampire bat feeding, using real blood. Zoo officials say the celebration will help visitors appreciate bats and give them information about the vampire bats at the zoo.
