Greensboro, NC -- Each year, Operation Christmas Child sends gift-filled shoe boxes overseas to needy children in over 100 countries.
On Sunday, Triad families and volunteers celebrated this year's kick off for Operation Christmas Child at Westover Church in Greensboro.
This year's goal is to collect close to ten million gift boxes total.
The hope is that 25 thousand of those gift boxes will come from the Triad.
National collection week is November 18th through the 25th. There are 13 area locations where donors can drop off shoe boxes packed with toys, school supplies and hygiene items.
Since 1993, the group has collected more than 100 million shoe box gifts.
