ASHEBORO - Energizer will cut 30 positions at plants Number 1 and 2 in Asheboro.
Energizer released a statement saying, "Recently, Energizer announced anticipated sales volume reductions that are related to customer losses. Senior leadership has determined final production volumes and the impact that those changes will have on operations. As a result of those changes, we will be eliminating approximately 30 hourly positions at our Asheboro plants during the next few months. All affected colleagues will receive separation benefits. We appreciate all of the great work these colleagues have done, but these staffing changes are necessary steps in our ongoing efforts to effectively compete and meet the needs of our customers."
In March, Energizer announced it would be laying off up to 75 employees between its three plants that manufacture and package batteries.
The 30 layoffs announced are separate from the March announcement, but the company says up to a total of 100 employees could be laid off by December.
At the end of 2013, the plant on West Central Avenue is expected to close.
