Greensboro, NC -- Mark your calendars! Tuesday is National Teacher Day and the second day in Teacher Appreciation Week. 

Each year, the first full week of May is set aside to honor and thank our educators.

According to National Education Association, the start of National Teacher Day is unclear. However, they believe the day began after an Arkansas teacher began speaking with education and political leaders about a way to honor teachers. Mattye Whyte Woodridge even wrote to First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who persuaded Congress to proclaim National Teacher Day in 1953.
