Studies show more than 17 million Americans are compulsive shoppers or spenders. The average American has more than $10,000 in credit card debt from unnecessary purchases. And the study says it's just about split between men and women.
"It's a form of obsessive compulsive disorder and people start collecting things," Dr. Andy Farah from High Point Regional said. "When that gets extreme, we have hoarders."
