Raleigh, NC-- The need to increase speed seems to be the campaign for some North Carolina lawmakers and a bill is on the fast track to becoming law.

Thursday, in an effort to raise the maximum possible speed limit on state roads to 75 mph, the chamber voted overwhelmingly to give the state Department of Transportation authority to set speed limits that high for some interstates and other limited-access highways.

The bill which received little debate, now goes to the House.

WFMY News 2 spoke with drivers who were for and against the idea.
