GREENSBORO - It's like the Superbowl for high school bands and a local marching band is on their way.
Northwest Guilford High School's Viking Band is leaving Thursday, October 24th for Atlanta to participate in the Bands of America Super Regional.
We couldn't fit the entire band in the WFMY News 2 Studio, so we asked just the senior leadership members to join the Good Morning Show before they left.
Band director Brian McMath and Evan Campfield, a drum major talked about the huge honor.
"We haven't competed on the national level since the mid 80's. The band is very successful locally but my students need to be pushed to the next level," said McMath.
McMath added how proud he is of his band who will represent Guilford County at the Georgia Dome.
"We work very hard. It started out with a 3-week band camp and we practice 4 times a week and have football games on Fridays so we work hard," said Campfield.
Be sure to watch their performance in the video player included in this story.
And donate if you can. As you can imagine, trips like this are not cheap and these kids have to pay out of pocket to play in the competition. You can support the Northwest Guilford Viking Band by donating here through the school's band booster page. If you have any questions, be sure to email Brian McMath at firstname.lastname@example.org.
