Greensboro, NC - We've been talking about the realities and dangers of domestic violence for weeks, but the tragic shooting death of Guilford County teacher, Laurissa Armstrong made many organizations want to stand up and do something about it.  Police believe Armstrong was shot and killed by her estranged husband.

The women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. want to get the word out to end domestic violence.  They're holding the "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes" event at Bennett College on Saturday, Sept. 21st.

Ashley Jones with the Sigma Kappa Omega Chapter of AKA, Inc. and Joseph Level the event's emcee, joined WFMY News 2's Tracey McCain on the Good Morning show to talk about the dangerous cycle.  Jones says all the proceeds will benefit the Sherri Denise Jackson Foundation, a local organization who's mission is to prevent domestic violence through education, prevention and intervention programs.

"We want all the men to come out too, because men are also subject to domestic violence," said emcee Joseph Level.  "And as a father, a husband, a man, I can't imagine someone putting their hands on someone I love.  We need to raise awareness."

The event is Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at Bennett College for Women from 8 to 11am.  The event invites both men, women and families to participate.  Just bring your high heel shoes.
