GREENSBORO - Gates at the 115th annual Central Carolina Fair will open Friday at 5 p.m., allowing guests to enjoy a myriad of rides, special attractions, music and food vendors at the Greensboro Coliseum.  Opening night and closing night attendees will gain free admission (ride tickets not included) into the fair, which runs through Sunday, Sept. 22.

Regular admission is $5 for adults. Seniors, college students, military personnel (with a valid military ID) and people under 42" tall are granted free admission for the duration of the fair.

WFMY News 2 spoke with business agent and attractions coordinator Darrell Desgranges, with Michaels Amusement. He said this year's fair will feature new children's rides, as well as a new 100-foot-tall swing ride.  Special attractions include the 500-exhibit 4H display, equipped with several species of chickens, which is set up in the Coliseum pavilion area. Circle C Farms again will bring its most popular attraction, a "Hogway Speedway," on which pigs and other animals will "race" around a mini track.

The Alvarez Family Circus, a five-generation family business, will bring acrobatics performances to the fair each night.  The family of four is from Florida and travels around the world to perform at different venues.  Martin Alvarez and his 15-year-old son Gianni gave WFMY News 2 a preview of the performance.  As Gianni Alvarez performed his balancing act, Martin Alvarez explained each member of his family (which includes his wife and daughter) has a different acrobatic or aerial skill.

Yacht Rock Revue will perform Friday night at 8 at the White Oak Amphitheatre.  On Saturday night, Parmalee will headline the show with its current top-30 country single, "Carolina."
