Greensboro, NC - On Thursday, August 8th, Greensboro Grasshoppers players and coaches will give the shirts off their backs to support Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro.

The Tropical-theme Jerseys worn by the Greensboro Grasshopper players during Thursday's 7pm baseball game will be auctioned off in a silent auction during the game.  Fans will be able to bid on the jersey of their favorite player prior to the close of the 7th inning.

After the game, the winning bidders can go on the field to receive their autographed jersey right off the player's back.

All the money raised benefits Habitat's Raising Roofs effort.  It's a partnership between Habitat for Humanity and the Greensboro Builders Association where homes are built in just five days.

"In the past 10 years, we've been able to build 50 homes, that's 50 families who have a safe, warm place to live thanks to events like this," said Maria Hanlin, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro's Executive Director and CEO.

Tropical Jersey night sponsor Billy Tesh from Pest Management Systems, Inc. has sponsored the event for the last 10 years.  He and his daughter, Julie have each volunteered to take a pie to their face to raise extra money for the organization.

"If $7,500 is raised during the auction, I'll get the pie in my face," said Julie.  "And if $10,000 is raised, Billy Tesh will step up to the plate and let Spaz and Guilford throw a pie in his face as well," added Hanlin.
