WFMY -- A Triad teenager is on a mission to help children around the world, and she's asking for help to do it.
In May, Laura Winn graduated from Morehead High School in Rockingham County. She'll attend Duke University in the fall. But those aren't her biggest accomplishments.
Winn has done several service projects in Guatemala and Kenya. Recognizing the abject poverty, she decided there was something more she could do to help.
Last year, Winn hosted a soccer tournament at the Eden YMCA. She registered 23 teams for the tournament and raised $2,300, which was used to buy uniforms, school supplies, textbooks and a feeding program for children.
It was such a success, Winn decided to make it an annual event.
This year, "Kickin' for Kenya" is on Saturday, July 27 at 10am.
If you want to register a team of five, you can email Winn at email@example.com.
